Instacrochet

Although I have been using Instagram for quite a while now, I don't have a public account. Or rather, I didn't - because earlier this week I switched the button from private to public. I feel this comes with an obligation to go out for an arty cappuccino more often and to spot all kinds of quirky details in the wild... Anything to feed my account, right?! *Ahem*

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that it might take me a while to get used to the fact that it's now a public account. But without joking: I'm tremendously excited about the prospect of having another creative outlet. I'm also tremendously anxious that - with one unfortunate swipe on my tablet (they happen) - I will publish an uncensored picture. ;-) In general I will - from now on - post about works in progress on Instagram where as on my blog I will focus on finished works. You'll find yarn on both!

Anyway! Here's a taste of the older pictures you will find on my Instagram. There are quite a few older pictures that you might have seen popping up on this blog before, but there are a whole bunch of new ones too. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Thanks for being here - I hope you have a most lovely day! And don't forget to...

Thrifted vintage and some crochet too

A couple of days ago I popped in our local thrift store
with the intention not to buy anything.
Ha!

The results are these two art deco bowls.
The first one is this 'cabbage leaves' Max Roesler from 1930.
Love the mint green...

And this Dutch design from Société Céramique, Maestricht.

Same bowl. Different doily.
Couldn't choose. ;-)

In case you're interested, the first bowl costed me 2,50 euro,
the second one a staggering 6 euro. ;-)

Anyway. This weekend I finished my blanket - fringes & all.
Still have to make the pictures though.
I hope you've enjoyed your weekend too!

So - I hit the jackpot

The doily jackpot, that is...
I often look with surprise at the wonderful potholders and doilies
other bloggers thrift at what seems to be a weekly base. :-)

I guess The Netherlands is not the best country
for finding that kind of second hand treasures.
That - or I'm just a lousy thrifter.

Until yesterday!
When I found these wonderful, delicate, crocheted doilies...

ByHaafner, crochet, doilies, doily, vintage, thrifted

I bought every single one of them. And love them.
I hope you like seeing them too.

Ready? Check. Pastels? Check.

In September last year I already blogged about this cushion,
and yesterday I finally finished it.
*sigh*
It's vaguely inspired by the pastel cups (a gift from a friend)
and the thrifted Sphinx plates.

As you can see I'm still looking for a place
in my house where this newest addition can live.

ByHaafner, crochet, cushion, granny stripes, pastel, vintage Sphinx plates

It's the simplest of patterns: a straightforward granny stripe.
Front and back are identical and crocheted together with a single crochet.
I added an extra round of single crochet for a more finished look.

Have a wonderful (crafty?) day!

Thank You and A Warm Welcome ♥

Welcome dear followers,

Thanks to this amazingly sweet blogpost
from the talented Maaike of CreJJtion
many of you found your way to this little blog,
others came here via Pinterest.
A warm welcome to you all!
(And thanks again Maaike for your nice words...)

I do find it a bit intimidating to have followers now.
For the first time I'm a bit lost what to blog about. ;-)
Even more so because these weeks are very busy for me,
and I have hardly time to blog (or to crochet, or to try new recipes).
- But hey, I came up with something...

And BTW, as I wrote in my last post,
I'm planning give away (my first!),
not sure though when it will be online,
but it will be as soon as possible.

Have a very good day!

Gelukkig nieuwjaar!

Happy New Year!
May 2013 be a happy, crafty, creative, sustainable
& an animal friendly one...

ByHaafner, crochet, doilies, vegan coconut lime pie, pastel, vintage, thrifted

This time we didn't make any traditional oliebollen for New Year's Eve,
but a coconut & lime cream pie instead -
from Vegan Pie in the Sky.
I wrote about that wonderful book before: here.

And to be honest...
When I state something like 'we made a pie':
My task was confined to picking a recipe. ;-)

ByHaafner, crochet, doilies, vegan coconut lime pie, pastel, vintage, thrifted

Anyway. It was the first time we had this pie,
and it didn't disappoint! At all.
Creamy it was indeed... Mmm.

So, before we ate the rest of it today,
I managed to take some pictures. (Only just!)

To end this first post of the new year:
I'm absolutely thrilled by the fact that there are a growing number of people interested in this blog. :-)
I find it terribly exciting to have visitors from all over the world.
Thank you for visiting and commenting.
It's appreciated, a lot!

I hope you had a good start of the year too.

About a throw that's not finished yet...

Yay! After working on it for over a year (with intervals!)
I'm about to finish my third throw -
15x19 squares finished and joined, completed with a lacy border.
I was hoping to present it to you now, but alas...
Still working on the last ends to weave in.
So here are some smaller crochet projects instead.

Granny squares...

Obviously, the previous picture is taken in the summer,
the terrace is now covered in snow...

ByHaafner, thrifted chair, crochet, granny square, cushions
And another granny square...

And the same colours in a granny circle.

It's a cover for this thrifted stool.

And some pompons - because they're always fun,
and because I like the vintage wallpaper...

While I'm weaving in ends: enjoy your weekend!

A Cloud of Doilies

Memo to self: do consider crocheting less doilies.

ByHaafner, crochet, pastel, doilies, doily, vintage style, granny chic

But if it's going to work...?
Because a while ago I thrifted this crochet book
(for only one euro!).

ByHaafner, crochet book, doily, Marie Claire Idées, thrifted

Never judge a book by its (rather dull) cover, right?
Since it's great, it has many lovely patterns.

ByHaafner, crochet, pastel, doilies, doily, vintage style, granny chic

Some of these doilies are either patterns from this book,
or inspired by them.

ByHaafner, crochet, pastel, doilies, doily, vintage style, granny chic

Hope you like them. Have a nice day!

Snapshots from a workspace

This little thrifted bird is always very nosey and wants to know what's going on on my desk.
He has a special interest in tape and crocheted work,
and is very picky about colours.

ByHaafner, bird, thrifted, vintage, washing tape, masking tape,

I look forward to using this paper yarn from Paperphine.
Not only the yarn itself is gorgeous,
the wooden bobbin is beautiful too.

ByHaafner, Paperphine, pink, wooden bobbin

I got this second hand sari - I love that embroidery! -
from a lovely lady in Jodhpur (the amazing blue town in Rajasthan, India).
And it's perfect for hiding a lot of, well, stuff.

ByHaafner, embroidery, bringing travel home, thrifted, vintage, sari, India

Looking at it, it makes me want to pack my bag and go back, like,
right now!

Super Easy DIY Garland

ByHaafner, bunting, garland, craftroom, washitape, crochet, doily, pastel, thrifted tins, vintage, yarn

Okay, since this is my first DIY,
I thought I'd start with an easy one.
And trust me: this one is really easy.
And - being a blogger now - it involves washitape. *Oh, irony*

So, what you need to make this garland (or bunting? What word would you use for this?):
Acrylic felt (Yes - I don't use wool felt, why? Click herehere or here. In short: It doesn't seem right to harm animals, certainly not for such a frivolous thing like a garland.)
Thread
Washitape
Scissors, needle and pencil.

ByHaafner, scissors, pastel plate, thrifted

Mark the triangles on the acrylic felt and cut them,
pull the thread through the triangles, apply the tape
et voilà!

ByHaafner, bunting, garland, craftroom, washitape, crochet, doily, pastel, thrifted tins, vintage, yarn

I like it because there's no sewing involved.
(Which is a craft I have to master yet -
I did buy a sewing machine, so the intention is there allright.)

Enjoy your day!
